When to Plant Amaryllis Bulbs
The best time to plant amaryllis bulbs is in late winter to early spring, in August or September. This gives these winter-planting bulbs enough time to establish roots before the warmer weather arrives.
How to Grow Hippeastrum
Plant hippeastrum bulbs in a pot or a well-drained garden bed, positioning the bulb so that the neck is exposed above the soil. Use a high-quality potting mix and a pot with drainage holes. Water thoroughly after planting and place in a sunny spot. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged until the bulbs start to sprout. Once the plant begins to grow, continue to water regularly, but reduce watering once the blooms fade. After flowering, allow the plant’s leaves to continue growing until they naturally turn yellow and die back.
For indoor displays, move the pot to a cool, dry location after flowering to encourage dormancy. Hippeastrum bulbs can be kept dormant for a few months before being replanted. Deadhead the flowers as they fade to keep the plant tidy, and enjoy the stunning blooms in both your garden and home.

What to Plant with Hippeastrum Bulbs
To make your garden as vibrant and eye-catching as possible, consider planting a variety of flower bulbs and tubers alongside your hippeastrum plants.
Bold hippeastrum complements the soft, delicate look of ranunculus bulbs or, similarly, big-and-brightdahlia tubers, giving you a gorgeous combination for yourflower garden or indoor displays.
