How Long Does It Take Squash Seeds to Germinate?
Squash seeds will typically take anywhere from five to 10 days to germinate. If you plant your squash seeds in an ideal soil temperature of approximately 21°C, then certain varieties of squash will germinate within as little as five days. In colder climates you can start your squash seeds indoors before planting them outside to ensure the soil is at the ideal temperature.
How to Grow Squash From Seed
Squash should be grown following the final frost. You can either start the seed off by planting it indoors whilst waiting for the soil in your garden to heat up or in warmer climates, you can directly plant it in well-drained soil, sowing up to three seeds per spot 2.5cm deep. If you’re planting indoors, start the seeds off in individual pots filled with seed-raising mix. Sow the seeds 2cm deep and water well, ensuring the soil remains between 15 and 20°C. Remember to harden off seedlings before you transplant them into your veg patch.
