How To Use Mr Fothergill's Three In One Soil Meter

SOIL pH
The pH of soil is a measure of its acidity or alkalinity. Many plants require a particular pH to thrive. An average soil pH is between 5.5 and 7.0 but some plants prefer a soil environment outside this range.

Instructions:

•    Move the switch to the right, to the pH setting.
•    Remove all debris from the soil surface and loosen the soil to a depth of approximately l0cm.
•    Dampen the soil until it is a muddy consistency.
•    Lightly clean the meter probes with paper towel.
•    Gently insert the probes into the soil to a depth of l 0cm.
•    Check the reading and adjust your soil's pH as required.

MOISTURE LEVELS
Plants need the right amount of watering to survive, and should not be over or under-watered.

Instructions:

•    Move the switch to the left, to the Moisture setting.
•    Lightly clean the meter probes with paper towel.
•    Gently insert the probes into the soil to a depth of l0cm, keeping close to the plant and its roots.
•    Check the reading and adjust your soil's moisture levels as required.

LIGHT LEVELS
Light levels are an important element to consider for all plants, especially those indoors.

Instructions:

Move the switch to the centre, to the Light setting.
•     The light sensor is located in the centre of the meter face. Be careful not to touch or cover the sensor when testing.
•    Hold the meter near the plant in the direction of the light source.
•    Check the reading and relocate your plants if required.
