Watermelon Super Sweet
Botanical Name: Citrullus lanatus
An exceptionally sweet variety that produces crisp deep red flesh that is almost seedless. Fruits are large and oblong with attractive striped rinds. Vigorous and fast growing these are an ideal fruit to grow for Summer. Delicious in mixed fruit salads or eaten fresh out of the garden.
How To Grow | Sow 12mm (1/2in) deep in clumps 50cm (20in) apart. Ensure rows are spaced 100cm (40in) apart. Cover with a layer of soil or compost and firm gently. Keep soil moist and warm. Seedlings appear in 6-10 days. Thin to the two strongest seedlings. To encourage side shoots, pinch the growing tip out at the 5-6 leaf stage. Keep well-watered and fertilised. |
