Purple Sun F1 Carrot Seeds
Add a splash of colour to your veg patch with these Purple Sun carrot seeds. Carrots were originally purple when grown in Asia and the Middle East before the orange strain was discovered in Europe. In recent years, the purple carrot has made a comeback thanks to its superb flavour and high antioxidant content – it has even been hailed as one of nature’s superfoods!
The Purple Sun F1 carrot is a robust hybrid variety known for its beautifully uniform, dark purple roots that retain their colour when cooked. Sweet and tender when harvested young, they bring a wonderful flavour and visual interest to everything from salads and juices to roasts, soups and stir-fries. This variety of carrot seeds prefers a cooler climate but can be grown all year round.
For a healthy and varied garden, grow your Purple Sun carrot seeds alongside other spring vegetable seeds such as bean seeds and capsicum seeds. Explore Mr Fothergill’s full vegetable seeds range for even more colourful varieties!
How To Grow
Sow Purple Sun carrot seeds directly into a well-prepared garden bed. Cooler temperatures encourage good root development. Space the rows 30cm (12 in) apart and sow the seeds thinly. Lightly cover the seeds with 5mm (¼ in) of fine soil, then firm gently and keep the soil moist. Your carrot seedlings should appear within 10-21 days. Keep the bed well-watered and weed-free.
Your carrots will be ready to harvest approximately 12-16 weeks from sowing. When harvesting, select young carrots evenly from the rows, leaving the remaining carrots to develop fully.
