Tomato Oxheart
The Oxheart tomato from Mr Fothergill’s is an old favourite! This large, fleshy tomato matures mid-season and produces ribbed fruit. Known for its sweet, rich taste, you can slice it into salads, add it to sandwiches, or savour it all on its own with a sprinkle of salt. An excellent source of Vitamins C, A, and E, along with potassium, fibre, and antioxidants, this tomato isn’t just tasty—it’s also a healthy addition to any recipe. As for growing, Oxheart tomatoes are an excellent choice for gardeners who want a reliable crop of sweet, ribbed, meaty fruit with minimal effort.
If you're looking to grow your own delicious tomatoes, the Oxheart is just one of the many varieties available in our tomato seed range. For a broader selection, explore our vegetable seeds, save money with our vegetable seed value packs, or buy some more of our best sellers instead.
How To Grow
Sow your Oxheart tomato seeds 5mm (1/4”) deep in pots or trays of seed-raising mix compost. Once they have 2-4 leaves, transplant them to 10-15cm (4-6”) pots in a warm, sunny spot. Only transfer them to their final fruiting position when they're sturdy enough. Space your tomato plants 75cm (30”) apart each way. Water them daily, and when the first truss has been set, feed them regularly with tomato feed. For best results, stake your tomato plants and prevent their heavy fruits from touching the ground. Pinch out any side shoots as they appear. Oxheart tomato seeds can also be sown directly in their final position, especially as a late crop. Harvest your tomatoes when they’re red-ripe, although slightly coloured fruit will ripen indoors. Seedlings should emerge after 10-14 days.
