Elderberry
Very easy to grow and versatile large bush or small tree producing delicate white flowers that become black berries with an abundance of juice. These berries are packed with vitamins and antioxidants.
Elderberries can be used dried, juiced or cooked. They have a bitter taste when uncooked and should not be used in its raw state. The elderberry plant is quite adaptable to Australian conditions and will grow in most soil types, including wet soils. This plant likes full sun, but is happy to grow in part shade as well. After flowering, the fruits appear in late Summer and the stems may droop under the weight of hundreds of small berries. Choose your position carefully, as this multistemmed plant suckers upwards and spreads. For this reason you may choose to grow it in a pot, or use a root barrier in the garden.
