Strawberry Melba (Crowns)
Botanical Name: Fragaria x ananassa
An Australian bred day neutral variety that bears an abundance of large, conical shaped, delicious berries. Mostly runner free variety meaning energy is put into fruit production.
| How To Grow | Plant crown on soil surface 40cm apart in full sun. Grow in a raised bed or in pots. For best results the soil should be well prepared with organic matter and have good drainage. Surface mulching between plants prevents weeds, helps retain moisture and keeps fruits clean. Weed control is important. Strawberries are shallow rooted so require ample moisture for good growth and fruit production. A liquid fertiliser should be applied throughout the growing season. Plants bear well for about three seasons. |
