Raspberry Chilcotin
Botanical Name: Rubus idaeus
A floricane variety that produces high yields of sweet red berries. This Raspberry crops early in the season and often produces a second flush of fruit late in the season. Harvest throughout the Summer months.
How To Grow | Raspberries are a versatile fruit used to make mouthwatering jams, sauces, purees, souffles or simply eaten fresh with cream or ice-cream. They are suckering plants that grow best in cooler climates and prefer a rich, well-drained soil in a position that does not have exposure to the hot afternoon sun. When planting create a mound of 10-1Scm to assist drainage, mulch and keep well watered during growing period. Attaining a height of 150cm they should be supported with a trellis or grown up against a wall. Chilcotin is a floricane variety, producing flowers and fruit on second year growth. To maintain your raspberry plant, lightly prune older canes in winter ensuring previous season’s growth remains.
