Explore Our Full Cosmos Seed Range

Cosmos seeds are simple yet effective additions to brighten any flower display. From mixed seed bags to single-colour blocks, these flowers can give your garden a wild twist or contribute seamlessly to an already established colour scheme. And even better, cosmos flowers pair beautifully with a range of other seeds. Tall and cheerful sunflower seeds complement the airy elegance of cosmos, while the rich colours of our Australian native seeds add contrast and depth to their displays.

When to Sow Cosmos Seeds

The question of when to sow cosmos seeds in Australia entirely depends on where you live. In temperate areas, we advise sowing your cosmos from July to late December, but in colder regions, sow in the spring from September through to mid-summer. In tropical areas, we suggest sowing them from May to October instead.

How to Plant Cosmos Seeds

Sow cosmos seeds directly into a well-drained garden bed or in pots at least 5mm deep. Space the seeds about 30cm apart and cover lightly with soil, watering gently to keep the soil moist. Cosmos prefer full sun and well-drained soil, so make sure you place your pot in an ideal position or sow them in the perfect spot in your garden.

Once the seedlings are established, thin them to allow space for air circulation and growth. Cosmos plants thrive in warm conditions and benefit from regular watering, but be sure to avoid waterlogging. To encourage more flowers, deadhead regularly and remove spent blooms. For cut flowers, harvest when the blooms are fully open to extend their vase life, ideally in the morning when they are full of moisture.
