This Spanish melon has creamy white flesh with flavour reminiscent of honeydew melon and pear. Stores very well which may be the inspiration for its other names Santa Claus Melon or Christmas Melon.

How To Grow

Sow direct into warm soil (20º C plus) or in punnets for early sowing. Choose a sunny final position.

Press four seeds into damp soil at each clump, spaced 50cm (20in) between rows and clumps. Seedlings emerge in 7-10 day.

When young plants have 5-6 leaves, pinch out growing tips to encourage growth of flowering shoots. Keep soil well-watered and mulched.

How To Cook

For a refreshing sorbet cut a melon flesh into chunks, add a splash of condensed milk, ½ cup of sugar and ½ cup of lime juice. Puree in a food processor. Chill then freeze in an ice-cream maker as per
operating instructions.
