How To Grow | Certified seed potatoes are grown in controlled field conditions to ensure they are disease free, true to type, vigorous in growth and greater in yield. Potatoes grow in a wide range of soils, the ideal being sandy with a high humus content. They require nitrogen so add manure and garden compost to the soil before planting. Once the soil has warmed, new shoots will appear in 2-3 weeks and require mounding to encourage formation of the new tubers, and to ensure they are not exposed to the sun. Lift potatoes when vines begin to die. Remove excess soil from your freshly harvested potatoes, then lay them out in a cool, dim room covered with a cloth or towels to block out sunlight. Cure them for 7-10 days, during this time the skins will dry, small wounds will heal over, and a thicker skin will form which improves their storage life. Once cured, store in a cool, dry and dark place. Height: 40-60cm Plant: 10cm deep 30cm apart in full sun. Watch our video on growing potatoes here |
