Snow Gum

Widely recognised by skiers and visitors to Australia's alpine regions, the Snow Gum is possibly the most beautiful of all Eucalypts available. Featuring smooth bark in shades of white, cream, grey and apricot, and large bunches of snow white flowers in summer, the trees are easy to grow even in non-alpine areas. Try growing in a large container for a showy courtyard feature.

We recommend the use of Wildflower Seed Starter Granules for improved germination rates and speed. These granules provide chemicals normally found in bushfire smoke that stimulate native seed germination.

When to plant: Early Spring.
How to grow: Sow in early spring. Mix seeds in damp sand, wrap in polythene, secure with a band or tie and place in the refrigerator at 2-5C for 6-12 weeks. Sieve the seeds and sow. Fill pot or tray with moist sandy soil. Sow seeds on surface, compress lightly and cover lightly with sand. It is beneficial to add Wildflower Seed Starter granules to soil surface. Keep moist but not wet. Cover with clean polythene – remove when germination commences. Place in warm shady position to germinate fully. Pot on when large enough to handle. Transplant to permanent position when about 20cm (8in) high. Water in well and water regularly around the roots until established. Avoid water logging.
