Silver Wattle

One of Australia's most popular Wattles, the Silver Wattle is an easy to grow and reliable shrub to about 5m in height. The plant features silvery leaves (actually flattened stems called 'phyllodes'), and bright golden circular flowers in late Spring. It makes a good cut flower specimen or a quick growing screen plant. Plants tend to self-seed readily.

We recommend the use of Wildflower Seed Starter Granules for improved germination rates and speed. These granules provide chemicals normally found in bushfire smoke that stimulate native seed germination.

When to plant: All year round except in hottest or coldest weather.
How to grow: Sow in warm areas anytime. In frost prone areas when danger of frost is over. Place seeds in a cup of hot water. Leave overnight then drain and sow. Fill small pots with moist sandy soil, wet thoroughly and compress. Sow 2-3 seeds 6mm (¼in) deep in each pot. Keep moist. Cover with clear polythene – remove when seeds start to germinate. Place in warm shady position to germinate fully. Plant seedlings out into full sun and well-drained soil. Prune plants to maintain their shape.
