When to plant: All year round except hottest monthsHow to grow: Sow seeds directly where they will grow at all times of the year except if very hot or very cold. Make sowings every 2 or 3 weeks for a continuous supply. Sow seeds 5mm deep in rows 10mm apart with seed from each sachet mixed together, or sow as separate rows of individual varieties. Leaves are picked as required for 5-8mm (2-3in) high for baby leaf salads. Leave plants to continue cropping in 'cut-and-come-again' style and they will reshoot up to 4 cuts. Alternatively, some seed can be sown this way and some at traditional spacing to allow mature full-sized plants to develop. Salad vegetables like good growing conditions so keep them well-watered and apply liquid fertiliser every two weeks or so.

After you have planted delicate seeds like Begonia or Snapdragon it is important that the seeds are not dislodged. Water the trays by soaking in a container so the water soak through from underneath.
