Gourds are great fun to grow, with all the intriguing colours and shapes of the fruit. An interesting climber, the dried fruit are great for indoor decoration. A half hardy annual. Prefers a sunny position. The plants can make decorative cover trailing on the ground or up fences and trellis. The harvested fruits will last longer with better colours if given a coat of varnish. DO NOT EAT FRUIT.
When to plant: Spring to early Summer How to grow: Sow 2.5cm deep in flowering position. Set three seeds every 4 ft (120cm). Thin as necessary. Keep moist. To harvest, allow the fruits to ripen on the plants until they are hard. Remove with a sharp knife and leave to dry out for a few weeks. Flowers: Summer to mid Autumn
